Once you press the help button the device automatically send a distress signal to a monitoring center via cellular networks. This signal reports an emergency and the location of the device to a monitoring center.

iHelp responses back

For example if it is a medical emergency the operator will dispatch paramedics to the location of the device. Operator will also update paramedics with the details of an emergency so that paramedics are pre prepared to handle the situation at hand.
